TRC Worldwide Engineering provided structural engineering services for The Academy at McCrory Lane, a state-of-the-art early childhood education facility located in Bellevue, Tennessee. This single-story wood frame structure is supported by a shallow foundation, covering approximately 15,500 GSF under the roof with around 13,940 GSF of conditioned space. The slab-on-grade design is soil-supported, allowing for simplified construction and eliminating the need for structural slabs or perimeter stem walls.
The building features pre-engineered wood trusses to frame the roof and accommodates a dynamic, child-centric interior tailored for children aged six weeks to five years. A striking two-story atrium lobby serves as the centerpiece, where whimsical suspended lily pads add a playful yet welcoming aesthetic. Classrooms are color-coded by age group to promote intuitive navigation and a strong sense of identity, enhancing both functionality and community.
