Port St. Lucie Civic Center / Parking Garage / Plaza - Port St. Lucie, Florida

TRC Worldwide Engineering, Inc. provided structural engineering design, contract administration and inspection services on the Port St. Lucie Civic Center – a springboard project for the new City Center. Streets lined with fountains, shops, cafes and apartments lead to the 100,000 square foot public facility. Based on public input, amenities include a banquet hall with commercial kitchen, multi-purpose room, gymnasium, fitness center, racquetball courts, meeting rooms, art gallery, pre-school room, and an indoor café. Located lakeside, it also includes an outdoor patio with a seating area and gazebo that overlooks the lake. An interactive fountain is at the front entrance area.

The facility is designed as a Department of Education’s Enhanced Hurricane Protection Areas (EHPA) building - capable of withstanding a Category-5 hurricane and operating with emergency power for up to five days.

Key Structural Components:
  • Tilt-up panels supported on shallow foundations supporting a metal deck and steel joist roof system
Award:

The Civic Center received the McGraw Hill/Southeast Construction Magazine Best of 2009 Award of Excellence in the Government/Public Project category.
