Patient Tower Expansion and Renovation - South Campus | Community Hospitals Indianapolis, Indiana

During the past two years, population growth on the south side of Indianapolis has increased inpatient volumes by 20% at Community Hospital South. The hospital is accommodating this growth and demand for health care services with a major expansion that includes a five-story patient tower, new operating suites and expanded outpatient services.

The design was inspired by the input of the hospital staff and the local community. Hospital capacity will increase from 110 beds to 150 all-private rooms. Additionally, the nursing units in the existing facility will undergo renovations to match the design of the expansion. Considerations for patient-centered care will be seen throughout the new spaces, including decentralized nursing stations and designated family areas that will enhance communication between caregivers, patients and families.

The facility will include aesthetically-pleasing natural light with large window space and nature-inspired design elements. With extra space to accommodate additional equipment, rooms adjust to the level of medical care required, minimizing the need to move patients from room to room. Patients who don't require a hospital stay will have access to freestanding outpatient facilities for regular doctor visits.

TRC provided MEP engineering services to RTKL for this project. A brand new Power Plant, including new MEP equipment, will accommodate this addition and renovation.
