The Wells Fargo Cultural Campus is a landmark mixed-use development in Charlotte, North Carolina, featuring a blend of arts, entertainment, commercial, and residential spaces. TRC Worldwide Engineering provided structural engineering design and construction administration services for this six-phase high-rise campus, designed to be an architectural and cultural hub in the city.
The expansive development includes a 50-story Platinum LEED-certified office tower, positioned above a below-ground, eight-level, 2,200-space parking structure. The site also features a nine-story annex with a green roof, a 36-story condominium tower, and the Mint Museum, which spans seven floors above nine levels of underground parking. Additionally, the campus houses the Afro-American Cultural Center and the new Knight Theater, featuring an underground auditorium. The locally designed Bechtler Museum of Modern Art is also part of this cultural destination.
The project’s structural design incorporates reinforced high-strength concrete columns and shear walls, post-tensioned and composite slab systems, multi-story cantilevered steel trusses, and a sculpted pre-cast concrete façade. A striking 65' x 65' exterior glass wall further enhances the development’s modern aesthetic and openness.
