Washington County Prison, Davisboro, Georgia

The Washington County Prison complex in Davisboro, Georgia, is a new state-of-the-art correctional facility designed to support modern inmate housing, administration, and rehabilitation services. Scheduled for completion in July 2026, the development will accommodate approximately 3,000 inmates and represents a major investment in secure and efficient correctional infrastructure for the region.

Spanning approximately 800,000 square feet across 13 buildings, the facility incorporates housing, administrative functions, medical intake, vocational training spaces, and operational support facilities. The campus is designed primarily around single-bed inmate cells, a layout intended to enhance security, simplify facility management, and improve overall safety within the correctional environment. Once completed, the complex will effectively replace the existing Washington State Prison facility, which has been in operation since 1991.

TRC Worldwide Engineering provided precast engineering services for nine of the sixteen buildings within the complex, including the Administration Building, Vocational Building, Supportive Housing Building, Facility Entry, Armory, two Housing Buildings, Health Intake, and Warehouse. The project utilizes a total precast structural system, consisting of both modular precast cell units and non-modular structural components. The buildings incorporate insulated and solid precast wall panels paired with double-tee roof systems, enabling durable construction and efficient assembly of the facility’s structural framework.

Security and operational efficiency were central to the design. The facility features precast cell construction paired with rear pipe chases, a layout that isolates plumbing and utilities outside the cell areas. This approach significantly reduces opportunities for inmates to conceal or introduce contraband or weapons within the housing units while simplifying maintenance access for facility staff.

The project also involved the production and installation of more than 6,000 precast concrete components, supporting the construction of one of the largest modern correctional facilities in the region. When complete, the Washington County Prison complex will provide secure housing, administrative operations, medical intake, and vocational training programs designed to support both facility management and inmate services.
