North Texas VA Medical Center Parking Garage #1

Planning Process:
  • Analyzed existing parking operations at the nations second largest VA Hospital
  • Projected expansion of clinic and in-patient facilities were increasing parking expectations by up to 1000 spaces
  • Helped facilities group identify new parking needs to be separated into clinical patients, primary hospital staff and indirect service personnel.
  • Helped facilities group redevelop clinical patient parking in most convenient location nearest to clinic entrances
  • Identified remote campus location for increased staff and in direct personnel parking
  • Remote location would be ideal for new parking structure (in existing parking lot) with access to staff entrances via new shuttle service and improved site lighting
  • New locations would also provide staff with secondary entry and exit form the campus remote from primary patient and visitor traffic.

Features:
  • Designed 725 space multi-level parking structure (expandable to 1000 spaces)
  • Structure design in accordance with VA design standards, including Critical Facilities set back standards
  • Established construction budgets and schedules
  • Incorporated parking structure aesthetics to compliment hospital and clinic facades, including neighboring buildings dating to 1930’s
  • Provided hand-on construction administration through project completion
  • Incorporated employee access control equipment and “Blue Light” safety communication and notification equipment
  • Established shuttle zone station for future campus wide transportation system
