TRC Worldwide Engineering, Inc. provided structural engineering design, contract administration and periodic construction observation services for this 176,500 square foot multi-purpose addition to the existing university campus. The principal feature is an athletic field house with a column-free area of 65,000 square foot, men’s and women’s locker rooms and support areas, fitness center, ticket booth, indoor running track, weight lifting room, cardio workout space, and storage rooms. The field house structural system features steel trusses, averaging 21 feet in height and 220 feet in length, spanning across the open gymnasium floor. Bleachers provide seating for approximately 1500 spectators along one side of the field house. Other functional areas include a three-story bookstore and cafe, a library and reading room, and a ballroom to hold special events. The entire facility serves as a campus link connecting several existing buildings and a nearby parking structure.
