Hub Columbia Parking Structure – Columbia, South Carolina

TRC Worldwide Engineering served as the precast structural engineer for a 537,855-square-foot, 14-level open parking structure designed to support a large-scale, mixed-use residential development adjacent to the University of South Carolina.

The garage provides 1,563 parking spaces and is engineered to support both market-rate apartments and student housing, including 720 market-rate units and 2,350 student beds distributed across two residential towers rising 22 and 27 stories. Ground-floor retail is seamlessly integrated into the project, requiring careful coordination between the parking structure, vertical residential loads, and active-use podium spaces.

The structure utilizes a precast concrete system with 3” cast-in-place topping throughout, delivering durability, long-term performance, and efficient construction sequencing. An internal one-way ramp system optimizes vehicle circulation across all 14 levels while maintaining a compact structural footprint.

TRC’s engineering approach focused on structural efficiency, constructability, and seamless integration with the over-build residential towers - ensuring the parking structure performs as a reliable foundation for a dense, urban, mixed-use development.
