Charlotte County Justice Center - Punta Gorda, Florida

To accommodate the growing judicial needs of Charlotte County, TRC Worldwide Engineering provided structural engineering design and contract administration for the expansion and renovation of the Charlotte County Justice Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. Originally completed in 1999, the 197,131-square-foot facility consists of a five-story main building interconnected with a three-story structure.

The project involved renovating existing courtrooms and office spaces while adding new courtrooms and expanded offices for the State Attorney, Public Defender, and Clerk of Court. A new secure entry pavilion was also constructed, integrating LEED design principles where applicable. All renovations and additions were carefully executed while ensuring the Justice Center remained fully operational throughout the project.

The structure incorporates reinforced concrete slab-on-grade foundations, concrete columns, and reinforced masonry walls for durability. The roof framing system, designed to withstand 162 MPH wind speeds (Exposure D), includes steel wide flange beams, steel channels, and bar joists supporting a metal deck, with plywood sheathing over pre-engineered wood trusses.
