Broward County Sheriff’s Office Training Center - Fort Lauderdale, Florida

TRC Worldwide Engineering provided structural design and contract administration for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Training Center, a 104,000-square-foot, four-story training facility paired with a 245,000-square-foot, seven-story parking garage in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Designed to support law enforcement training and operations, the complex enhances public safety preparedness with advanced tactical environments.

The training center features a 40-lane indoor firing range with vehicle access for real-world scenarios, a simulation Shoot House with an observation catwalk, and Fire Rescue simulation labs. Additional facilities include a rappel tower, training rooms, a 180-seat auditorium, administrative offices, and conference rooms. The main entry lobby, dedicated as the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Memorial Lobby, was designed to offer a serene and contemplative space honoring the victims of the school tragedy.

The secure parking garage includes an elevated, gated ground floor, oversized vehicle parking, and 705 parking spaces, ensuring controlled access and operational efficiency. Structurally, the facility incorporates precast wall and spandrel panels, precast concrete joists and beams, and ballistic-rated assemblies in walls, floors, and the roof. The Category 5 hurricane-rated design includes a full generator backup, while the roof structure eliminates the need for columns in the firing range below, maximizing space and functionality.
